Queen Latifah, also known as Dana Elaine Owens, was born on 18th March 1970, in Newark, New Jersey, U.S. This 52-year-old American rapper is an actress and singer as well. Her mother, Rita Lamae was a teacher at Irvington High School and her father, Lancelot Amos Owens was a police officer. Her stage name Latifa means very kind and delicate in Arabic which she found when she was eight years old.
Latifah studied in a Catholic school in Newark, New Jersey, and was raised a Baptist. She graduated from Irvington High School and after that, she enrolled at Borough of Manhattan Community College. Latifah’s parents got separated when she was ten years old.

Latifah began rapping and beatboxing when she was in high school. In her junior year, she created a rap band, Ladies First. During this period, she met a local DJ Mark James who formed a band, Flavor Unit and made Latifah an original member of the group. Latifah made a demo rap record, Princess of the Posse with James. This record caught the attention of Dante Ross, an employee of Tommy Boy Music. He later signed Latifah for her debut single Wrath of My Madness in the year 1989. This song was extremely appreciated and she bagged the opportunity to perform on a European Tour at the Apollo Theater. Later in the year 1989, Latifah released her first album All Hail to the Queen when she was 19 years old.
