Females shaving their faces is not a new thing as everyone has some amount of facial hair. It is of two types, i.e. vellus hair and terminal hair, of which vellus is almost invisible and covers the face and body. But the terminal hair is thicker and darker and is found on the neck, chin, upper and lower lips. This reduces the facial beauty and hence women shave it. But is there any way to stop shaving? Read on to know more.
Is Shaving Good For Facial Skin? Can It Be Stopped?
Shaving is a personal preference and doing it in the correct way reduces the chances of any side effects. You can opt for alternative facial hair removal techniques when you dislike shaving it often. Dermaplaning is one such technique for facial hair removal.
Does Shaving Make The Hair Regrow Thicker?
No, neither shaving nor dermaplaning makes the hair regrowth thicker and darker. This is just a myth. You just get the blunt feeling of the regrowing hair. Still, if you do not like shaving, stop it, there are other methods, explained in the next section.
Ways Of Removing Facial Hair Without Shaving
1. Waxing
It is a cost-efficient technique for removing facial hair. This process works when your hair is at least 1/4 inch or longer. It can be done in a salon or at home, in which a hard wax is spread on the face when it is warm and after drying it can be removed without using a cloth.
You might experience some discomfort in this process but the results last for 4-6 weeks. Make sure to wax at home, only if you have prior experience or else you would end up burning your skin with the hot wax.

2. Threading
In this, a thread is used for pulling rows of hair from the roots. It is usually done for the upper lips, cheeks, forehead and sideburns. The main drawback is that it hurts a lot but the outcomes last for 4-6 weeks.
It is a better choice for people with sensitive skin since it doesn’t remove the upper skin layer. A cooling cream can be applied to avoid post-threading discomfort.

3. Dermaplaning
It is an anti-ageing treatment in which the facial hair is also removed using a flat razor that scapes off the top dead skin layer. The hairs aren’t removed from the root but since the dead skin cells are removed, it results in smoother skin.
The outcome of the process lasts for 6-8 weeks.
4. Laser Hair Removal
This is almost a permanent hair removal technique that is often used for targeting the hair on the upper chin and lips. You may experience some pinching in the process but the pain is negligible as cold air is blown or a cool blast of water is used during the process.
The outcome is almost permanent unless your body’s hormones affect the hair regrowth. 6-8 sessions with a 1-week gap are needed for the desired outcome and the process is expensive.

5. Sugaring
A natural paste made of sugar is applied to the skin to gently remove the hair in its usual growth direction. Unlike waxing, it doesn’t remove the skin’s top layer and hence it is more gentle on the skin. You can use this for smaller hairs even when they are less than 1/4th inch long. The outcomes in this process of hair removal last for 1-2 months.
Sugar exfoliation opens up the skin and hence you need to be careful with the type of sunscreen and other chemical-based products that you are using on the face.
Just like the numerous beauty treatments, various hair removal techniques can replace shaving faces in the case of females. Every process has a cost and some pain associated with it but you need to know which is best suited for your face to avoid any negative impact.
