Eyelash extensions are a semi-permanent way of making your lashes appear bigger and lengthy. Generally, lash extensions last for weeks, but with proper care, you can maintain them longer and enjoy your big lashes and stunning eyes.
One of the important aftercare for maintaining last extensions is preventing them from getting wet for the first 24 hours of getting them. It is also advised not to take sauna baths, steam baths, and exposure of lashes to moisture for a few days.
It is the reason why people often wonder how to shower with eyelash extensions.
The answer is that you can shower normally but avoid your lashes from getting wet for the first 24 hours. It allows the adhesion to set completely and make a strong bond. At the same time, a few more things that you should avoid are-
- putting high pressure directly on the lashes
- taking overly hot and steamy showers
- rubbing the eyelashes
Let’s dig a little deeper and know how to shower with eyelash extensions.
Making The Eyelash Wet
Eyelash extensions are waterproof, so there is no harm in making them wet. In fact, it is advised to wash, clean, and brush them regularly to maintain their health and prevent eye infections.
However, you need to keep in mind to avoid making the lashes wet for 24 hours after getting the extensions. It is advised that the adhesive can cure completely and create a strong bond with natural lashes. Even though eyelash adhesives have greatly improved over the years and most recommend waiting for only four hours, do not take a chance. It’s better to be safe than sorry, isn’t it?

Once the glue cures completely, there is no harm in showering with eyelash extensions. The adhesive used to glue the extensions is waterproof and designed especially for them. Extensions will fall off naturally once the natural lashes complete their growth cycle.
How To Shower With Eyelash Extensions
Even though showering with eyelash extensions is recommended safe, you still need to be cautious to enjoy them for longer. Let’s find out how you can shower with your extensions while preserving them.
1. Do Not Apply Water Pressure
When water gushes over the extensions with pressure, its retention capability reduces. So avoid aiming the showerhead at your lashes. Likewise, do not use high-pressure showers and jets. Let the water fall on the back of your head instead of your eyes. Using a cup to rinse the face is also a good way.
2. Avoid Steamy Showers
Hot water creates steam and humidity, which is not good for your extensions. Staying in a shower with steam for a long duration can easily weaken the adhesions and bonds between your natural lashes and extensions. If you see your bathroom steaming up while showering, lower the temperature and open the door and windows.
Just like steamy showers, you should avoid sauna baths, steam baths, and tanning salons that expose the extensions to excessive moisture
3. Do Not Rub and Scrub Your Eyes
If you have the habit of rubbing your eyes while washing your face, forget it. Rubbing and scrubbing the eyes is a big NO as it is dangerous when you wear fake lashes. Do not remove the dirt as you always do; instead, use a lash brush to clean or itch the eyes.
Be gentle while showering. Do not use loofah or body brush on the face as it can snug on lashes, leading to their premature falling.
4. Avoid Using Goggle
Some people advise using goggles every time you shower after getting the eyelash extensions. It is a myth. Using goggles only if you shower for the first 24 hours is recommended. Wearing it in every showering session is a misconception. In fact, it is recommended to wash and clean your lashes to keep the dirt and grime away.
5. Clean Your Lashes Thoroughly
It is essential to make your lashes clean and tidy with regular washing and brushing. Simply rinsing them is not enough. You need to remove the dirt and oil that get tangled between the lashes. If you have applied eye makeup, get rid of that as well.
Later, brush your lashes with an eyelash brush to prevent them from tangling. Use gentle and soft hands to brush the lashes to prevent the adhesive from weakening.
Showering is essential to maintain hygiene, and you should not stop doing that just because you have lash extensions. Showering in the correct way without being forceful to the eyes is the best way to shower with eyelash extensions.
